Is perineal rehabilitation covered by Social Security? We explain what is reimbursed, under what conditions and how to benefit.
Is perineal rehabilitation reimbursed?
A subject still unclear to many
When we talk about perineal reeducation, one question often comes up: “Is it reimbursed?” And rightly so!
Between in-office sessions, the purchase of home equipment, prescriptions, medical devices... it's easy to get lost.
So let's get to the point, simply and clearly.
Because your perineum deserves all your attention - without it costing you a fortune.
Perineal reeducation: what the Assurance Maladie says
In France, perineal reeducation is reimbursed, but only under certain conditions.
In which cases?
After childbirth: Assurance Maladie reimburses up to 10 sessions of perineal re-education on medical prescription. This is known as postnatal rehabilitation.
In the event of functional disorders: bladder weakness, prolapse, pelvic pain, etc. If these symptoms are identified by a health professional, a prescription can also be obtained.
Who can prescribe?
Gynecologist, general practitioner, midwife or urologist.
Who should I work with?
Physiotherapist or midwife trained in perineal rehabilitation.
Good to know: if you're on long-term care (ALD) or pregnant, certain expenses may be reimbursed at 100%.
What about reeducation probes?
This is THE question we're most often asked:
“Is the purchase of a probe reimbursed?”
Yes... but not all.
In France, some probes are reimbursed at a flat rate of €25.92 inc. VAT if they are on the list of reimbursable products and services (LPPR).
To qualify for reimbursement :
- You need a medical prescription specifying the purchase of a vaginal or anal probe for electrostimulation or biofeedback.
- The probe must be approved (LPPR number).
- It must be purchased from an approved supplier (like us, for example).
Please note: probes used without medical advice or outside recommended guidelines (e.g. during menstruation) are not covered by the warranty or by Social Security.
What about home rehabilitation devices?
If you choose to do your rehabilitation alone at home with an electrostimulator or connected app, be aware that these devices are not systematically reimbursed.
However :
- Some models may be reimbursed if prescribed.
- Some mutual insurance companies offer a contribution towards reimbursement.
NB: Don't hesitate to contact your complementary health insurance to find out about possible reimbursements or prevention packages.
