What is pelvic imbalance?

On:

Pelvic imbalance can lead to back pain, postural discomfort and muscular tension.

Discover the causes, symptoms and solutions to restore balance to your pelvis and improve your daily well-being.

What is pelvic imbalance?

Pelvic imbalance can be compared to a wobbly stool. Imagine that one of its legs is shorter than the others: everything becomes unstable.

You feel it in your posture, your movements, and sometimes even in your general comfort.

But what does it really mean? What are the symptoms, and above all, what can be done about it?

Pelvic imbalance: definition and causes

The pelvis is the body's center of gravity. It supports the spine, houses the pelvic floor and plays a key role in our mobility.

When a pelvic imbalance occurs, it means that this region is no longer correctly aligned, or that asymmetrical muscular tension is disrupting its proper functioning.

The causes are varied:

Poor posture: Do you often stand with your back to one leg? This can lead to long-term imbalances.

Pregnancy or childbirth: These periods place intense demands on the pelvis and can alter its balance.

Trauma or injury: A fall, a shock or even a sprain can leave its mark on the pelvis.

Sport or intense physical activity: Certain sports, such as running or weightlifting, can accentuate imbalances due to repeated pressure.

What are the symptoms?

Pelvic imbalance can manifest itself in many different ways. Here are the most common signs:

Pain in the lower back or hips: Feeling persistent tightness or discomfort? This could be linked to misalignment.

Bladder weakness or heaviness: An unbalanced pelvis can affect perineal function.

Body imbalance: Do you sometimes feel as if you're walking crookedly or compensating by shifting your weight?

Muscle tension: Particularly in the buttocks, thighs or even calves.

What about you? Have you ever experienced any of these symptoms without being able to identify the cause?

Why take action?

Allowing a pelvic imbalance to develop can have more serious consequences: chronic pain, poor mobility, or an increased risk of injury.

It's like driving a car with the wheels misaligned: in the short term, it seems insignificant, but in the long term, it can cause major damage.

Fortunately, it's possible to restore balance!

How can you restore a harmonious pelvis?

Consult a professional

A physiotherapist or osteopath can assess your posture and suggest appropriate exercises. These experts can quickly identify the causes of imbalance and work on any tensions or blockages.

Strengthening the perineum and stabilizing muscles

Your perineum, along with your abdominal and gluteal muscles, form a veritable support belt. Strengthening them can go a long way towards stabilizing the pelvis.

Adopt healthy posture

Get into the habit of distributing your weight evenly when standing or sitting. Gentle sheathing exercises, such as Pilates or yoga, are excellent options for working on your posture.

Invest in the right equipment

Specific tools, such as biofeedback probes or devices for perineal re-education, can support you in this process.
